Fr. Tim's Homily for the Sixth Sunday of Easter (May 13)
  

Last week, within the course of his Last Supper Discourse, Jesus explained in the Gospel the importance of staying connected to him the one true vine, just like branches are connected to the vine of a plant. He taught that without that connection, there could be no spiritual life or eternal life in us. Jesus also taught that because we are connected to him through holy baptism that we are called to take the spiritual nourishment that we receive through holy baptism and the other sacraments of the Church and bear fruit, fruit that will endure. And finally, as disciples of the risen Lord, Jesus reminded us that his Father continues to prune the branches that are bearing fruit so that they might bear a more lush and abundant fruit. This is why God allows challenges to come to our faith and for sufferings and hardships to be present in the life of his disciples, so that they can depend even more upon him than they already do. In the Gospel of today’s Mass, Jesus continues to teach us about how we will be able to remain in him and bear fruit that will endure…
